Tons of Money
Published in Hardcover by Lost Coast Press (October, 2000)
Average review score:

A riveting, roller-coaster of a novelIn their ambition to get rich quickly, Shane O'Connor and Richard Stearns smuggle gigantic loads of cocaine into the U.S. where they sell the stuff for more money that they could ever hope to make as up-and-comers in Boston's elite world of bankers, lawyers, and computer manufacturers. But Shane and Richard discover that the allure of wealth, power, and prestige also attract rapacity, deceit, and murder. Tons Of Money is a riveting, roller-coaster of a novel showcasing the down side to an "anything for a buck" philosophy and the dark side of sudden money and greed that are the underpinnings of cocaine trafficking.

Too Many Animals Sleep in My Bed
Published in Hardcover by Kidsbooks (August, 1995)
Average review score:

Too many sleep in my bed!I think it is a really silly book and I love all the funny animals in it. I think she should have a bigger bed for all the animals and herself. I like the silly names the animals have and how the story all rhymes together. It makes me and my family laugh when we read it. The pictures are really good too! I would like to get another copy, since ours is very well read and one of the pages is toren, plus I want to find a new one to give to my friend.

Treasury of Damon Runyon
Published in Hardcover by Random House (January, 1978)
Average review score:

A Hard-To-Find Classic By A Much Underappreciated WriterLike "Guys And Dolls," the Treasury is a collection of Runyon's Broadway short stories. It includes favorites like "Hold 'Em Yale" and "Jack 'O Hearts," as well as some more rare tales including an early Runyon piece where a prototype of Runyon's typically uninvolved narrator actually plays a crucial role in the storyline. The stories within and the excellent introduction (which sheds much more light on the author's life than any other Runyon collection) make this both a perfect introduction to Runyon's Broadway or an excellent addition to a collection. Damon Runyon is often forgetten when the time comes to list the great American writers of the 20th century. His unique style of prose is truly entertaining, and he evokes any emotion from the reader at will ("Little Miss Marker", for example will force you through the whole spectrum of emotion). A great collection of works from one of my favorite writers.

Turning Research into Results: A Guide to Selecting the Right Performance Solutions
Published in Paperback by The Center for Effective Performance (July, 2002)
Average review score:

The definitive guide to performance improvementThis book is all you need to understand the process of performance improvement in organizations, and the "active ingredients" that impact performance. The book separates the snake oil and fads from solutions that are supported by research. It gives clear and research-based guidelines for diagnosing the causes of performance gaps and selecting solutions for knowledge, motivation, and organizational problems. Case studies illustrate the appliation of the model and rules. In addition, the book describes how to reliably and validly evaluate the effects of performance solutions and identifies flaws in some common approaches to evaluation. The book answers the kinds of "why" and "what if" questions that rarely get addressed. It includes a powerful model of motivated performance that can be used to address any motivational problems. This book gives one the arguments and references to support organizational development and training practices and also the arguments and evidence to abandon practices that have been shown to either be ineffective or to do more harm than good. If you want to understand why what you are doing works (or doesn't work), you need to read this book. It is unlike any other to date in the field of performance improvement and training. It takes the profession to a higher level and is a must for anyone working in the area of organizational development, performance improvement, or training.

The United Nations Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Program: Formulation of Standards and Efforts at Their Implementation (Procedural Aspects O)
Published in Hardcover by University of Pennsylvania Press (December, 1994)
Average review score:

The best available review of UN standards and normsI write from the perspective of a former senior officer at the United Nations Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Programme. Professor Clark writes a clear and highly informative review of the activities of the Organization in this field since 1945. Having been a member of the then Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Branch from 1982 to 1994, I was active in the preparations for the 1985 and 1990 UN congresses on this topic, and I am surprised at the enlightening manner Professor Clark has of presenting a complex subject, making it accessible to the lay public. The programme has produced over 40 instruments in the area of crime prevention and criminal justice, which, although not binding in a legal manner, establish moral obligations which a sizable number of countries are unwilling to violate. They constitute the conceptual foundations upon which one day a true international penal law become a reality. This book is the best introduction to the largely unknown efforts of a group of dedicated international civil servants and to the outcome of such efforts. I highly recommend it to anybody who wishes to acquaint him-herself with this corpus of legal thought and reflection.

Come on, people!Hey, people, what gives? The bio of Eugene (and an incredible job it is, Katherine) is up the Amazon list (...) or so, and here lingers his gem (...). I want every one of you people who bought Milking the Moon to pony up the dough for a copy of The Untidy Pilgrim. You can't understand one without the other. (...)Now that it is back in print, shame on everyone who doesn't buy one! There Eugene, I hope I have redeemed myself. They don't write 'em like this anymore. My copy still has the dew on it.
